The Thistle Inn in Inverness was originally built between 1690 & 1710 and was a coaching Inn on the main road north to Beauly. In the time period 1860 - 1870 public houses were required to apply for a license to serve alcohol and in 1863 the Thistle Inn applied and was refused, it still carried on trading and in 1868 the new owner re-applied and a license was granted. On February 15th 2001 the Thistle changed hands again, and after extensive reports were carried out it was decided the Thistle Inn was an unstable building and had to be demolished. Demolition started in late January 2003 and a replica Thistle Inn opened for business on the 28th November of 2003.

After refreshing youself, have a look outside above the door, what is the surname of the licencee?
